How to Strengthen Your Immune System?
Colds, acute respiratory infections, and the flu can spread through the air. In modern life, avoiding contact with infected people is almost impossible. Fortunately, the immune system protects the body from infection in most cases.
However, poor nutrition, pollution, stress, and exposure to cold can weaken the immune system. The risk of infection may then rise sharply. To reduce the risk of colds and flu, it is important to **strengthen your immune system**.
Bacteria Supporting the Immune System
A healthy human body is home to **friendly bacteria**. This community of bacteria is called the **microflora**. It is found mainly in the gut, but also on the skin, in the mouth, and on other mucous membranes. Bacteria play a major role in human life: they take part in digestion, metabolism, and immune processes, and may even influence hormones and mood.
Specific strains of **probiotic bacteria** can have a positive effect on the immune system. They support the microflora and may significantly reduce the risk of colds.
Clinically Studied Immune Support

Results of Clinical Studies in Children Aged 3–5
A double-blind, placebo-controlled study* was conducted during cold season, from November to May, in children aged 3 to 5. Children who took **Bifidobacterium lactis Bi-07TM** and **Lactobacillus acidophilus NCFM®** bacteria daily had significantly fewer cold symptoms, including fever, cough, and runny nose. They were also prescribed antibiotics much less often than children in the control group.
The average number of days of illness among children who took probiotic bacteria was 46% lower than in the control group.
Results of Clinical Studies in Adults
A similar clinical study** was also conducted in adults. Men and women took part in the five-month study. The group that took **Bifidobacterium lactis Bl-04TM** probiotic bacteria had a **27% lower risk of developing an upper respiratory tract illness (a cold)**.
The average time until the onset of cold-related symptoms was 3.2 months in the probiotic group, compared with 2.5 months in the placebo group.
These results suggest that taking specific probiotic bacteria can significantly reduce the risk of colds.
